Our philosophy
The lure of the sea is inescapable. No one knows why humans desire to explore the oceans and waterways of the world … perhaps it is simply that 70% of our planet is covered by water. Compact Mega Yachts was formed to offer those that dream, a means to explore in something different. Something special.
Mega Yachts – huge and ultra-expensive vessels – are a sight to behold and few argue the satisfaction one would have from owning one. CMY believed that the dream life on a Mega Yacht could be brought to reality for more people, yet in a smaller, more practical platform. Thus the basis of our name … Compact Mega Yachts.
With an ethos of ‘less is more’, CMY set out to create a series of boats to fulfil the dreams of those for whom a traditional Mega Yacht might be out of reach. A set of parameters were put in place at the beginning … striking contemporary design, kind to the environment, maximum comfort, highest possible quality and… importantly… at an affordable price.
The CMY design team, with naval architect Paul Bury, has created a totally fresh concept that is timeless and functional. The modern lines combine multiple areas to relax and take in your surroundings or just settle in with a good book. Entertaining, a cornerstone of enjoying relaxation time, was forefront at every stage of the design process and culminated in two layout options to fit every owner’s lifestyle.
The CMY161 comes with three OXE 300hp Diesel Outboards as standard. These revolutionary engines, created in partnership with BMW, are taking the boating industry by storm. They consume up to 40% less fuel compared to gas petrol powered outboards. And developed in-house with OXE, our ‘adaptable powering’ concept dramatically reduces fuel consumption further by only using the horsepower (engines) that are required. It reduces drag by keeping unused engines out of the water. Lower fuel usage and less drag dramatically reduce the consumption and cost of running. It also reduces pollution which, as we know, depletes natures reserves less quickly. One might say… it’s revolutionary. We call it ‘ECO Mode’.
Luxury is most often defined by the volume of personal space around you. To increase volume and the sense of luxury, we maximised the space of social areas by keeping them on one level. We pushed the dimensions of the saloon to the maximum width of the hull. The walk-over side decks and lower floor enabled us to add 25% to 30% more volume to the saloon. To add to the perceived sense of space, we incorporated nearly 360 degrees of glass to the saloon and helm areas. Not only does this bring in a huge amount of daylight, it also opens your views to distant horizons. And to the environment around you.
Ocean Quality Systems – CMY’s partner from the beginning – is one of Finland’s premier boat builders. We chose OQS to build the CMY161 due to its ability to manufacture to the highest international standards. Its build methodology utilises Finland’s finest skills and talent in an assembly-style production process. This guarantees the utmost quality while reducing build times. Less build time means quicker delivery. Which is less cost to the buyer.
Boating – or in Mega Yacht terms ‘sailing’ – is one of life’s great pleasures. It is an indulgence that satisfies the lure of the sea and fulfils the dreams of a child or a wise old salt. CMY exists to bring ‘sailing’ to those that wish to fulfil their dreams and are ready to explore the seas in their ‘Compact Mega Yacht’.
Propulsion

The standard CMY 161 features triple OXE Diesel 300hp outboard motors developed in conjunction with BMW. These outboards give extraordinary economy and low emissions whilst developing a very high level of torque. Through the bite of the stainless-steel propellers, the 900hp generated takes the 161 to around 27 knots at full speed and 24 knots cruising.
Compact Mega Yachts is pioneering “adaptable powering” by utilising only the number of engines and horsepower required to do the task at hand. Three for top speed, two for Joystick docking, or just the centre engine for casual or long-distance cruising. One engine, ECO mode, gives an approximate max range of 3,000-mile at 7.5 knots using a minimal one litre of fuel per nautical mile.
And any maintenance required is aided by easy access. The front of the engines is accessible when lowered, or with them raised to service the gearbox and props from the rear swim platform. If required, engines can be unbolted and easily removed for service, repair or upgrade without any costly deck or interior work.

Technology

The CMY 161 is rich with the latest technology. These features offer more comfort, safety and more fun! The OXE diesel engines are groundbreaking for longevity and fuel economy. Gyro stabilisation and ZIPWAKE dynamic trim-control make for a smoother, roll free experience. Joystick docking, GPS position-holding and Birds Eye docking all take the stress out of mooring or close-quarter manoeuvring. State of the art Garmin electronics not only serve to navigate but they also communicate with the engines and entertainment systems. The PLC automated control system allows control of many electrical functions but also monitors fuel and water tankage. The BOYD Touch Table will certainly be popular with families as it has endless digital interactive uses, as well as serving as a stylish dining table.
Above Decks
The CMY161 has been designed with a big boat look and feel, yet she is easily handled solo or by a couple cruising. Delivering this fresh and unique yacht to the prestige motorboat market has involved concept and styling by the Compact Mega Yachts team and architecture by Australian Naval Architect Paul Bury. The Upper Deck Lounge provides recreational space whilst the vessel is both at rest and underway. The rear dining area features a glass interactive dining table which can display navigation data, AIS charts, interactive entertainment, recreational games like chess and air hockey and much more.

Below Decks
Boatbuilding skills from the locality of Jakobstad in Finland are legendary. Many of the OQS team have honed their skills at Nautor’s Swan or Baltic Yachts, which are located on the same headland within easy walking distance of the OQS factory. The beautiful real wood interior of the CMY161 is built in modular units which are lowered into the vessel once complete. This method utilises local skills and craftsmanship to ensure maximum quality, efficiency and accuracy. The interior of the 161 has a spacious, light and airy feel due to the additional volume created by the ‘walk-over’ side decks. The clean lines, spacious and uncluttered styling, gives the overall impression of the comfort and luxury generally associated with larger vessels.
Layout
CMY 161 Command & Control
The 161 has two control stations, the principal one on main deck level with co-pilot seating alongside. All the important controls are easily accessible. On the sun-deck lounge above there is a hidden control station for helming outside, which is particularly useful for manoeuvring in port.
On both saloon layout options, the large concertina doors at the rear of the saloon slide right back to connect the saloon with the outside dining area, featuring the IP67 rated BOYD Touch Table and seating for 6-8 guests.
The ‘Walk-Over’ side decks leading to the bow create greater room inside than in conventional walk-around side deck layouts. The salon, galley and dining area, gain nearly 30% more internal volume compared with an equivalent walk-around side decks boat.
Both interior options share the same forward cabin design. An owner suite, guest cabin and two heads with stall showers, makes the boat perfect for a family or two couples. The versatile saloon seating can be converted to sleeping areas, accommodating occasional guests.
CMY 161 Standard
The port side U-shaped dining area is suitable for comfortable dining for six and is convertible into a sleeping area. Aft on the port side is an entertainment centre and storage area.
Just steps down from the main saloon floor, the galley is tucked out of sight, but open enough to be socially connected. Plenty of counter space, ample storage and all the essential appliances, including a 4-burner induction stove, will complement the best culinary skills.
Aft of the galley is a lounge area, which is also convertible into a sleeping area.
CMY 161 Open Plan
Port side lounge/dining area is capable of seating 6-8 guests. With the table folded it converts to a lounge relaxation area. The area is convertible for sleeping for guests or crew if required.
Featuring a multi-purpose Breakfast & Bar style counter and a well appointed galley with no lack of working space, appliances or storage.
Space below the work surfaces house white goods and appliances to cater for the most discerning of chefs.
