2016 Riva 88 Domino Super – NOW SOLD

Posted

Grabau International is delighted to announce its successful sale of the 2016 Riva 88 Domino Super.

88 ‘DOMINO SUPER: the evolution of the coupé

It is Super, not only because it is extraordinary, but also because it bears the famous suffix in the name that defines the evolution of the species in the Riva home. Heir to one of the major best sellers of the sports line, 88 ‘Domino Super makes its world premiere in mid-May in Monte Carlo, waiting to be presented to the international public in September, on the 2015 edition of the “Cannes Yachting Festival”.

“88 ‘Domino Super has an ambitious and fascinating task” – explains Stefano de Vivo, Chief Commercial Officer of Ferretti Group. “More than a restyling, the new coupé is the result of a meticulous design process aimed at perfecting a highly successful model, which can boast about twenty units produced and sold all over the world.
The results achieved can be admired today on 88 ‘Domino Super as on 88’ Florida, which we are proud to present at the same event. These two new models will light up the summer season and will be great protagonists, together with the third new Riva, the 76 ‘coupé, at the next edition of the Cannes boat show, where the world presentation to the public will take place. ”

88 ‘Domino Super is a yacht destined to set new standards in the sector in terms of style, comfort and performance.

Long 26.70 meters (87.7 ‘) overall for 6.30 meters (20.8’) of maximum width, it was born from the collaboration between Officina Italiana Design, the studio led by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta who signs the entire Riva range, and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

From the very first glance, the boat captivates with its streamlined and aerodynamic profile, also enhanced by the original hull color, a dark grey renamed “London Gray”. This new color choice also characterizes some details of the deck and creates a fascinating contrast with the light Gray (“Moon Gray”) of the superstructure.
In addition to this novelty, there are other important stylistic choices that underline the value of this evolution:
• the new sun deck enhances the sportiness of the boat while offering additional comfort to guests;
• the outdoor command station, moved amidships and very compact in size, leaves room for a large sofa in the bow;
• the large single hull window, characterized by a very aggressive design, points, like an arrow, from the canter of the boat to the extreme bow. The stainless-steel plate with the Riva logo, set right in the middle of the window, is the detail that seals this masterpiece;
• the revised stern area completes the yacht’s sense of dynamism. The important technical features that she is enriched with are skilfully combined with the sporty look and offer additional comfort to guests, making technical operations extremely easy.

“Dynamism and brightness. To be impressed by the speed and relax while observing the beauty of nature. I think of this when describing 88 ‘Domino Super “- says designer Mauro Micheli. “A first impression to which is added the satisfaction for all the solutions with which we at Officina Italiana Design and the designers of Riva and Ferretti Group have perfected a model that is already much appreciated. I am thinking of the elegant shades of the hull and the sophisticated play of colours between light and dark in the exterior decoration as well as in the interior. Environments enhanced by the natural light that pervades them. Solutions that excite me, and that I can’t wait to see at sea, the yacht’s natural habitat. ”

AFT AREA AND COCKPIT

Already from the aft area, substantial interventions can be seen that bring comfort to guests and welcome benefits to the crew. The stern platform, fully movable and submersible, provides a comfortable base to prepare to dive into the water and get back on board, as well as making the launching and hauling of the tender extremely easy, thanks also to the inclined base of the garage.

The engine room has also been reorganized, installing some main equipment in the areas that are easier to reach. These measures are also the result of the constant collaboration between the shipyard, captains and crews who have managed the 86 ‘Dominoes produced in recent years, and who have been an active part of the constant improvement that today takes shape in the new 88-footer.

The cockpit can be reached from the beach via some comfortable steps on the sides of the stern. It is a real outdoor living room, characterized by a large “C” -shaped sofa / chaise longue, beyond which a sofa faces the dining table. Some folding outdoor chairs, contained in the base of the table, allow to accommodate up to 6 guests. The set-up is completed on the left by a low cabinet with sink, where the access to the crew area is located. On the starboard side, under the ladder to go up to the sun deck, another compartment contains the icemaker and storage where, on request, it can be installed.

PRESS REVIEW:

“…A meticulous approach to each project is a constant throughout the Riva production. The builder’s iconic image is built in part on hard work coupled with a great amount of creativity, which applies to the new 88′ Domino Super.

…A refined, mid-sized vessel with superb exterior lines, the new Riva is a showstopper but not a show-off. What makes you fall in love with the 88′ Domino Super at first glance is its streamlined silhouette enhanced by two-tone livery. “Color is not a choice of secondary consideration. It is indeed a design feature for us,” Micheli says…

…“Our priority was to create a boat with a strong identity while maintaining the Riva flavor,” Micheli says. “The sun deck on the 88′ Domino Super offers a comfortable area for the owner, and guests enjoy good views and feel a real connection with their surrounding environment; still it is perfectly concealed into the yacht’s profile. It represents the bond between the Open series and the larger flybridge models.”

The relationship between exterior and interior spaces is one of the keys to understand and appreciate this remarkable project. “From outside, the 88′ Domino Super has a bold, outstanding look yet it is also a cozy and intimate cocoon,” says Micheli, who chose to create a separation between outdoor and indoor areas. Large glazed surfaces and privacy don’t go together well, hence the designer’s decision to eschew those floor-to-ceiling openings seen on many contemporary yachts. This conceptual choice led to a sleeker exterior design with streamlined windows on both the hull and low superstructure, enhancing dynamic lines.

“The idea is that after swimming or lying in the sun, when you go inside the yacht you long to be in a private environment. We didn’t want to blur interior and exterior stainless steel frames. The wood’s warm and intense hue creates a homey feeling despite rigorous geometric shapes. Officina Italiana Design designed most furnishings and chose a selection of loose pieces by renowned Italian manufacturers, such as Poltrona Frau and Knoll, to name a few. The whole interior revolves around a concept of elegant simplicity and creates a highly sophisticated contemporary marine style.

In line with its sporty look, the Riva 88′ Domino Super is capable of a top speed of 38 knots thanks to twin MTUs delivering 2,435 horsepower each. A more powerful version allows for a maximum speed of 40 knots. Its blistering performance will no doubt attract owners who want to experience the thrill of driving it themselves, particularly from the helm station on the flybridge; however, the yacht has decent crew quarters (two cabins with bunk beds, bathroom, dinette and laundry area), located at the stern with access to the engine room. The galley is part of the guest accommodations but has its own space on an airy sort of mezzanine, accessed from stairs located on the port side.

The new Domino is a true heir to the Riva spirit. Since it was unveiled in May 2015, Riva has sold nine of these silver bullets (there were 30 of the 86’ Domino built). And while brand may have something to do with it, the Domino Super stands on its own merit.”
