Baltic 67 – Fastnet Race

Early August saw the 48th edition of the Rolex Fastnet Race take place between Cowes, Fastnet Rock and Plymouth.

With over 300 yachts and 3,000 sailors taking part in the world-famous race, with entries ranging from 100ft super maxi racing sloops, high-performance trimarans and Open 60’s, down to the Contessa 32’s, the sheer variety of yachts on the water was incredible. This year was particularly important for Grabau International as our Italian broker Michele Antonini was racing aboard the newly-launched Baltic 67 ‘LURIGNA’.

Having made a fantastic start in the fickle Solent breezes, LURIGNA made good time down towards Fastnet Rock. Unfortunately, due to a technical issue with the powered winches, the crew had to revert to manual winching, which went quite well until two of the three winch handles disappeared over the side. Continuing on under full sail, the skilled crew maximised the performance, bringing LURIGNA home in an incredible 58th place overall, and first place in the newly-created ‘single winch handle’ class.

LURIGNA will now continue her maiden cruise south towards the Mediterranean where she will end up later this Autumn.
