Late-January saw our annual pilgrimage away from the New Forest and across the Channel to attend boot Dusseldorf.
The Dusseldorf Show is without doubt one of the most impressive boat shows anywhere in the world. With over 1,800 exhibitors from 70 countries and over 1,800 boats displayed across the 17 bustling halls, in excess of 240,000 visitors attended the 49th edition of the show. Grabau International was in attendance for five days this year working with our friends at More Boats, more of which can be found here.
Although most of our time was spent on the More Boats stand, we did get a chance to take a look around the halls at the latest and great products on offer in the fast-paced marine leisure industry.
More Boats 40 – Okay, so we are rather biased on this one, but this boat is truly quite special. Built to stand up to serious abuse, yet ultra-rapid thanks to her ORC-optimised Cossutti-designed hull lines. With a price point starting at just Euro 185k+VAT, the More 40 is also a total bargain. The only downside is getting hold of one as the order books are filling up rapidly with a variety of private, charter and fleet buyers.
Italia Yachts 9.98 Club – We first saw the designs for this stunning variant of the multi ORCi world champion Italia Yachts 9.98 Fuoriserie last year. Dusseldorf allowed us to see her in the flesh and what a boat! Simply perfect for the buyer who wants to combine club racing with stylish and comfortable ‘weekend’ cruising, we can’t think of a more suitable yacht for Solent duties. As with the More 40, perhaps we are a little biased here as we are able to offer our clients an opportunity to buy the same boat as shown on the Italia Yachts stand.
Cranchi T36 Crossover – With her world debut at Dusseldorf, this very clever new design packs serious amounts of space and practicality into just 36ft. The twin bike racks on the coachroof was the cherry on the cake. Cranchi have dared to bold with this design, but we can see her working for so many people. Yet another example of Italian design leading the pack.
San Lorenzo SX88 – Although not quite the largest motor yacht on display at Dusseldorf, the new 27 metre SX88 was arguably the most spectacular, towering above the hall with sparkling grey/silver paint and menacing triple Volvo IPS drives lurking beneath. Marketed as a ‘cross-over’ yacht, combining the benefits of both a flybridge cruiser and a compact explorer yacht, she certainly looked the part amongst a sea of white GRP.
Cigarette 50 Marauder – 150% over the top in every way, but why not! In a world where fuel economy is a dirty word yet power and speed is everything, this 2,000hp+ rocket ticks all of the right boxes. Perhaps a little more ‘Miami’ than ‘Gosport’, we want one all the same.
