Grabau International invests in Youth Sailing

Posted

Following on from our continued sponsorship of the Lymington Town Sailing Club’s autumn Solent Circuit series of inshore yacht races, through 2019, Grabau International has turned attention to supporting and developing youth sailing initiatives. With most sailing and yacht clubs already providing established race training programmes for youth sailors, the Lymington Town Sailing Club; a recognised RYA Training Establishment has placed particular focus on injecting the basic fun into sailing and encouraging those of all ages to get afloat.

Making use of the excellent facilities afforded by the Salterns Sailing Club, with a waist-deep lake and a well-maintained fleet of training Optimist dinghies, children as young as four can get their first taste of sailing in a controlled and safe environment. As the children get older and their confidence levels increase, their sailing moves to the Lymington River and out to the Solent, using a fleet of dinghies provided by the club and a team of volunteer coaches and safety officers.

Recognising the importance of inspiring the next generation of sailors and yachtsmen, Grabau International is proud to have been involved in the purchase of a number of Laser Pico sailing dinghies which make up part of this Lymington River-based fleet. Alongside the purchase of the Picos, Grabau International has also donated a training Optimist dinghy identical to those used at the Salterns Lake.

“As the father of a child who started sailing with the Lymington Town Sailing Club at the age of four, and to witness the level of patience and support put in by members of the club to help the youngest of children take their first steps afloat, it is really great to be in a position to support the priceless work that the club does to get children and families on the water.”
