The Saturn 48CC sailing in perfect conditions in Fort Lauderdale

Saturn Yachts was born out of the desire to create a home away from home. My vision for Saturn Yachts was to build a strong brand, synonymous with luxury, which gives the sailor the ultimate sailing thrill.

Roger Burroughs – M.D Saturn Yachts

Roger Burroughs & the Saturn Yachts Story

Roger Burroughs, a very successful businessman away from the yachting world and a life-long sailor moved into the boat-building business in the late 1990’s when he took over the mantle of bringing the Hylas range to the UK. Working closely with the builders in Taiwan and the German Frers and Sparkman & Stephens design houses, Roger developed the Hylas range to become a firm favourite amongst the blue water sailing fraternity.

Despite these great successes, Roger had yearning to produce something truly special. A range of yachts tailored for the blue water yachtsman with as few compromises as possible in respect of performance, sea-kindliness, internal volume and seamanlike layouts.

This desire was realised through an association with the renowned naval architect and super yacht designer, Bill Dixon. Bill is an extremely capable cruising yacht designer who became well known after taking over the job of revitalising the Moody range of yachts and creating the notable Taswell series. He has gone on to create a number of outstanding super yachts built by such prestigious firms as Holland Yachtbouw and Royal Huisman. All this experience, together with Roger’s fresh ideas led to formation of Saturn Yachts and the creation of the Cruising World 2014 Boat of the Year nominated Saturn 48, with designs for an aft-cockpit variant, the Saturn 44,  and Saturn 55 following in quick succession.

The Shipyard

Using his extensive knowledge and contacts in the Asian boat building industry, Roger formed an alliance with the Ta Yang Yacht Building Company in Taiwan. Founded in 1973, Ta Yang has constructed over in excess of 1400 blue water cruising yachts to date ranging from 37’ to 72’, many of which under their own Tayana Yachts brand.

Working with Ta Yang has allowed Roger to offer clients the level of flexibility and customisation that is rarely found amongst yacht manufacturers producing yachts of a similar type. Working within the plans draw up by Bill Dixon, almost any and all aspect of the fit-out can be tailored to the specific requirements of the client, although of course, with the extensive experience Roger, Bill and Ta Yang at hand, advice and guidance is always readily available in respect of what works and perhaps what doesn’t.

The Ta Yang Yacht Building Company is an ISO 9001-certified yacht builder and all Saturn Yachts constructed for European markets are built to conform with the requirements of the EU’s Directive 94/25/EC – Recreational Craft Directive.
