“Hylas Yachts expands presence in performance cruiser market”

The Taiwanese-headquartered sailing yacht brand, Hylas Yachts, has strengthened its presence in the performance cruiser market with the launch of its new Hylas 60 model. In terms of design, the Hylas 60 brings together international input from German Frers for the exterior styling and construction design with an interior layout by Hot Lab.

Hylas Yachts describes its new model as “the most advanced yacht in the storied 40-year history of the shipyard, which has launched over 520 boats so far and collaborated with a number of star designers, such as Sparkman & Stephens, Germán Frers, Bill Dixon, Dean Salthouse, Doug Zurn and many others.”

The new cruiser made its debut in February at the Miami Boat Show. The H60 has a plumb bow and broad transom and as such it offers owners a platform combining both performance and comfort. The model comes with two interior layout options of three- or four-staterooms

“This new development looks even better in the water than she did on paper,” says Christian Pschorr, Hylas Service & Program Director. The H60 will, the company feels, be readily appreciated by Hylas owners with the yacht’s performance developed through the use of the most advanced construction technologies. The end result is that the H60 has a strong performance in all conditions and provides excellent seakeeping abilities.

“Her overall style is timeless and we expect this new model to have a long, successful life in the market,” says Germán Frers. Hylas Yachts has collaborated with Frers for over 40 years and built a reputation for yachts that combine ocean sailing capability, classic lines and exquisitely finished interiors.

With the H60, Hylas considers that it is staking out new territory through the design which makes the new model ocean capable but at the same time offering a smart interior that matches the contemporary demands of today’s cruising sailors.

Working with Hot Lab and the luxury interiors they have provided, Hylas sees the H60 taking the company’s model range to a new level. “We worked in close contact with the yard’s team,” commented Enrico Lumini, partner and interior chief designer at Hot Lab. “The development of a soft and gauzy mood-board has been the result of this relationship. This is how we ended up with a whitish, oiled wood, warm, polished-nickel elements, and creamy leathers. All materials and details which blend together in an incredibly soft manner, keeping the traditional feeling of a pure sailing yacht interior.”

The hull design and sailplan Frers has created means today’s voyaging couples can expect to stretch daily cruising distances and find handling the yacht very manageable when short-handed. The introduction of CZone digital switching has made interior system controls easy through portable devices and dedicated touch screens.

Even the introduction of the highly efficient Volvo D3 engine brings a more sophisticated level of monitoring and control to the fuel and power systems. Other improvements have been made across the yacht such as fresh-water pumps to the use of hydraulics for in-mast furling, backstay control, vang control and the lowering swim platform that opens up the dinghy garage.
