Hylas Yachts at the London On-Water Show

Earlier in May, Grabau International and Hylas Yachts displayed the new Hylas M44 Euro at the London On-Water Show in St.Katherine Docks, Central London.

Making the trip to St.Katherine from Chichester, the M44 performed beautifully, cruising comfortably and economically at 24 knots (well within her 30knots+ potential) along the English Channel and into the Thames Estuary. Passing beneath the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge at Darford, through the Thames Barrier and then a quick detour beneath Tower Bridge to check out the Tower of London, the M44 proved herself the perfect viewing platform to take in the sights of London from the water. In the heavily confused waters outside St.Katherine Dock, the M44’s zero-speed gyroscopic stabiliser kept her rock-steady while her twin Yanmar 370hp V8’s, CNC rudders and proportional speed bow and stern thrusters allowed relaxed and pinpoint positioning at all times.

The show itself was a great success with lots of new faces and great levels of interest in the boat, especially from those drawn to her ultra-low air-draft, making the M44 ideal for the upper reaches of the Thames.

Before long, it was time to lock-out and head back to Chichester. Leaving St.Katherine Dock at 11am, the M44 arrived safely in her Chichester Marina berth less than 11hrs later, having stopped in Ramsgate for fuel and provisions and pressing on into increasingly choppy seas at a very comfortable 22 knot cruise.
