Over the coming weeks, Grabau International will delve into the archives of Vismara Marine and pick out some of the most important and iconic projects to come out of this magical Viareggio shipyard.
This week, we look at an inspirational yacht – the 2013-launched ‘BRUSAFER’, Vismara’s stunning full hybrid performance daysailer.

Concept
BRUSAFER marked the return of the day-sailing world into a shipyard world-renowned for racing or cruising. By analysing other boats in the market and studying the different water lines to optimise the performance, brought a tremendous result of an advanced, very competitive and high-performance boat which at the same time is easy handling, safe and reliable in winds up to 18 knots.
The Vismara design studio developed a new & innovative form of hull chine already shown in the such Vismara yachts such as the V50 Hybrid, V50 ‘k9’, V62 ‘Natali’ and V80 ‘Luce Guida’, modifying in this project also the bow shape based upon hydrostatic studies.
Constuction
BRUSAFER is constructed with a sandwich Core of structural materials in advanced composites using unidirectional and biaxial carbon fibres impregnated and vacuumed in epoxy resin. Male models of hull were shaped under numerical control.
Interiors
The interior of BRUSAFER provides a queen-size bed in the bow, two sofa-beds on each side in the aft sections, an electric head, and a 40lt fridge. Carbon structures and structural furniture were finished in exposed carbon. By using a deck-stepped mast combined with a maximum beam of 3.10m, a maximum height of 1.60m (higher than the standard), BRUSAFER boasts a wide and comfortable interior for a yacht in this category and measure.

Propulsion
BRUSAFER is fitted with a Mastervolt Podmaster 9hp electric inboard engine, driving a 3-bladed propeller via a S-drive unit. Powered by 4 lithium ion batteries, 40Nm of autonomy at 5 knots was achieved thanks to advanced hydrodynamic studies.

Rig
From her deck-stepped carbon mast with swept-back spreaders and no backstay, to her self-tacking staysail, BRUSAFER is filled with innovation designed to create a yacht suited to either regatta or cruising purposes. Electric and reversing winches, under-deck code 0 and staysail furlers, carbon boom with lazyjacks, electrically operated vang and main traveller create an effortlessly handled yacht, controllable from the helm via just 6 buttons. North 3DL carbon sails including a square-top mainsail provide the power under sail.
