Italia Yachts – Spring Regattas

Posted

SUGAR 3; the brand new Italia Yachts 11.98 owned by Ott Kikkas’ Sugar 3 made her debut at the recent Regatta dei Due Golfi, organized by the Yacht Club Lignano. Over the course of five races and in particularly challenging weather conditions, straight out of the box, SUGAR 3 scored three podium finishes with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, against some well-established competition, eventually placing 2nd overall in her class.“We certainly don’t feel as strong as we could be,” says Paolo Bucciarelli, Sugar’s team manager 3. “We’ve proven our potential.” The great victory in Race 5 shows us that we are on the right track, but we are sure we can get more out of this boat that has not given us any problems, not even in the critical conditions of the first two days with strong wind and rain “.

The Italia Yachts 9.98’s GUILA, skippered by Rudolf Vrestal and LADY DAY, skippered by Corrado Annis also scored overall podium places in their respective races, concluding a dominant outing for the Italia Yachts fleet in this important early season regatta.

Just a few days later, the Italia 9.98 ‘UNPOPERGIOCIO’ charged through a fleet of over 80 boats in the Tre Golfi regatta to score a fantastic second place. “It was a beautiful race, very challenging but very satisfying” commented Roberto Cosentino skipper and tactician aboard the boat owned by Fabrizio Iadecola’s. “At about three o’clock in the morning, when there were still 25 miles to the finish, the weather conditions were quite tough, with wind over 21 knots and pouring rain. Paradoxically at the same time the larger boats were in no wind, and all the smaller ones were facing the toughest conditions in the passage between Li Galli and the arrival. This is an area where you have to be able to interpret the unstable wind very well. From here to the finish it was a continuous chase between the boats, passing from the top positions to the last in a short time. It was a really good race, faster than expected, but also challenging because almost all race in the wide upwind. I must say that having a strong technical boat helps to solve all the problems and mistakes that are made in navigation” concludes Cosentino. Next for UNPOPERGIOCIO will be the National Tyrrhenian Championship – Rolex Capri Sailing Week, also in Capri, for the qualification to the Italian Offshore Absolute Championship.
