Summer has been productive at the OQS shipyard in Jakobstad, with steady progress across both Ocean Explorer new builds. While one yacht has entered the water and begun sea trials, the other continues to move through the final stages of construction before paint and commissioning.
For Ocean Explorer 72-02, July marked a major milestone with the yacht’s successful launch. Following the launch, the Hall Spars carbon rig was stepped, allowing the next phase of testing to begin.

Throughout the month, the team has been conducting sea trials to verify the yacht’s systems and performance under real-world operating conditions. These trials are an important part of the build process and provide valuable data before final delivery.
Alongside the testing programme, the remaining interior components have been fitted and commissioned. The technical installation is now largely complete, with electronics, propulsion, generators and onboard systems operating as intended.
Ocean Explorer 62-02 has also seen significant progress over the summer. The final sections of the natural oak interior are now being installed, giving a clear impression of the finished living spaces.

Outside, the hull has received its final primer and is now being prepared for paint. On deck, hardware installation is well underway, and the Hall Spars rig has now arrived at the shipyard in preparation for stepping later in the build.
Below deck, work continues on the yacht’s extensive electrical and hydraulic systems. These are designed to provide seamless operation across different electrical standards, allowing the yacht to operate comfortably both in North America and elsewhere around the world.
Another milestone has been the installation of 27 m² of solar panels on the coachroof. Fully integrated into the design, the solar array contributes to the yacht’s energy management while maintaining the clean deck layout that is characteristic of the Ocean Explorer range.
As we move through the second half of the summer, both projects continue according to schedule. One yacht is now proving herself on the water, while the other is steadily approaching the final stages of construction.
We look forward to sharing further progress in the months ahead.
