Grabau International is delighted to announce the price reduction of the 2001 Amel Super Maramu 2000 ‘ISLAND PEARL II’.
BROKER’S COMMENTS:
Well known to us here at Grabau International ISLAND PEARL II is now in only her second ownership. Having spent the first part of her life doing very little, but always professionally maintained by an Amel Technician, she was purchased by her current owners in 2011, and was sailed from the Canary Islands directly to Australia.
For the next five years in Australia (March 2012 – March 2017) she was barely used at all whilst the owner worked full time, however this period was used by them upgrade her to the highest spec level possible for their long planned circumnavigation which would commence in 2017.
Finally in May 2017 Island Pearl II commenced full time cruising for the first time ever, and over the next 2.8 years her owners enjoyed “the trip of a life time” sailing trouble free in absolute comfort around the world, whilst always keeping her well maintained and never sailing or motoring the boat hard.
With an extremely comprehensive blue water inventory, and many recent updates, ISLAND PEARL II represents a fantastic opportunity to purchase one of the finest examples of these iconic and unique cruising yachts. She is fully ready to go again, and is located in Brisbane, Australia with all Australian Import Duty and GST already paid.
OWNER’S COMMENTS:
After seeing more than twenty Amel 53’s and 54’s over a five-year world-wide search, we eventually found our dream Amel Super Maramu 2000 in the Canary Islands in September 2011.
Despite having received all the Amel factory upgrades such as the Yanmar engine, as well as two factory fitted under bunk Freezers, two holding tanks and other items, the first owners did not ever cruise her due to ill health, and so never fitted much of the essential ocean crossing cruising gear. To us this was a bonus as we could get all this critical gear new post 2011, rather than the old technology equipment that was only available when she was built in 2001.
During the latter part of 2011, and in January 2012 we upgraded Island Pearl II with a new Duo AC/DC Watermaker (as seen on the later model 54’s and 55’s only) as well as a Raymarine 650 AIS, three Chart Plotters, dual Auto-pilots with quick change over switch, a new DSC Radio, HF Radio, Dual Separ Fuel filters with quick change over switch, and a significant amount of other gear to bring her right up to date. Work here also included the professional servicing of every winch, both the Yanmar main engine and Onan generator, all sails, all rigging parts, and every working part to ensure a safe delivery half-way around the world to Australia.
With still only 650 hours on the engine and half that on the generator (amazing for a then 10-year old boat!) we sailed out of Canary Islands and across the north Atlantic Ocean to St Lucia in the Caribbean in January 2012 absolutely delighted with our purchase. For this trip, and the onwards delivery through Panama and across the Pacific we hired a professional skipper and crew. This provided us with an excellent introduction to the boat, her amazing ocean sailing capabilities, and also invaluable blue ocean sailing training by a professional skipper with over 200,000 ocean miles experience in all types of vessels.
Since arriving back in Australia, we have invested significantly in fitting her out to even a higher spec level to meet our requirements. She now has imported davits, 1040w solar panels, 2012 Duo (24v/230v) 100L/Hr Watermaker, 2nd full Raymarine auto-pilot (2012) with quick change over switch, three fixed VHF radios, HF Radio, 2 x Raymarine chart plotters (2017 & 2012), AIS send/receive Raymarine (2018), full new standing rigging (2016) imported by Amel’s supplier ACMO in France, a lot of new running rigging, 2 x Radars, In-Built Fuel Polishing system, Iridium GO with built in Cruisers package external antenna, 3000w Inverter/70amp (x24v) Charger (plus two original Amel chargers), two 2017 Rutland 1200 wind generators and too much gear to mention.
Our long-term plans were always to purchase the perfect “around the world” sailing vessel and then to circumnavigate over a three-year period after which ISLAND PEARL II would be sold, and this is precisely what we have done. She has been our prefect dream boat!
Between May 2017 and November 2019 we enjoyed a totally trouble free circumnavigation and “trip of a life-time”.
We arrived back in Australia recently and Island Pearl II is now completely ready to sail again, with all the usual “two yearly out of water Amel maintenance/servicing” already done, and she also comes completely ready with both a professional yacht “out of water” Survey (Nov 2019) and a Rigg Report (2016 – all new imported standing rigging). In addition, she also has a full set of beautiful new (Oct 2019) tri radial sails fitted in the latest 2020 Amel yacht colours.
In summary, Island Pearl II is one of the finest examples of the iconic Amel Super Maramu 2000 yacht that you would find anywhere in the world, in beautiful well-maintained condition, and is already fitted out to a high specification level for comfortable “off the grid” ocean cruising. She is mechanically and operationally sound, and totally ready for her new owners to sail the world immediately, in comfort and style. She is also fully duty and GST paid in Australia.
