Grabau International is delighted to announce the new listing of the 2012 Outremer 5X ‘MOANA’.
MOANA is hull No.2 of the 5x semi-custom series and built for an experienced blue sailors owner as THE performance cruising catamaran. She perfectly fits the DNA of the Outremer shipyard with a great 4 cabins version layout.
FURTHER BROKER’S COMMENTS:
Launched in 2012 as the second in the Outremer 5X, MOANA is a particularly highly specified example of this high performance French cruising catamaran equipped as a turn key solution for worldwide sailing experience: • Carbon fibre Axxon mast wioth Kevlar shrouds • Harken winches pack • All Incidence sails serviced in 2018 • NKE instruments pack • Flexiteek 2G – 2017 • Davits with RIB • Twin Volvo Penta 55hp engines with saildrives • Highfield 3,8 metre dinghy with rigid aluminium bottom • Suzuki 20hp outboard engine • Schenker watermaker • Webasto diesel heating • Solar panels • Led lights • 3kg Washing machine
PRESS REVIEW: The culmination of the French Outremer yard’s 30 years’ experience in multihull building the 5x comes with a powerful rig and large daggerboards for good windward performance. Outremers’ can be called niche market boats as output is relatively small with only 200 hulls produced but these are discerning yachts – the 5x won European Yacht of the Year 2013, beating stiff competition from the major manufacturers including exotica like Gunboats. Australian Multihull World Magazine
OWNER’S REVIEW: The sailing philosophy on MOANA is to easily manage her from the cockpit. MOANA has been designed to rely on renewable energy (wind for propulsion, solar for electrical power) as much as possible, and as such she boasts an above-average 1800 watts of solar panels, mounted above the davits and on the bimini. In our experience this suffices to satisfy the energy demands (lights, batteries, water maker and occasional laundry) when at anchor or mooring. We really appreciate this solution as it is simple and tranquility is not disturbed by either genset or wind generator. Embarking on a world trip in 2012 with her first owners, she has crossed the Atlantic and the Pacific; her second owners took her from New Caledonia to Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji and Vanuatu. We will be concluding our cruising lives in November 2018 in Papeete, French Polynesia. MOANA was hauled out for detailed inspection and repairs as required in 2016 (Boatworks, AUS), 2017 (Norsand, NZ) and 2018 (Norsand, NZ). Additionally, the mast was un-stepped and the rigging underwent a full Level C inspection with rod lozenges, kevlar shrouds and the front beam martingale cable replaced by Doyle Rigging in February 2018. MOANA is a proven, capable blue water cruiser with lots of options, meticulously maintained. Every system is extensively documented from a user’s perspective. This performance cruising catamaran is suitable for all types of sailing areas and will provide you with autonomy, comfort and safety.
SHIPYARD’S REVIEW
Moana, one of the most elegant performance cruising catamarans, is available for sale. Winner of European Boat of the Year by all EU magazines in 2013 and Best Sailing Boat in the USA in 2014, hull #2 of this highly successful series is made for fast, yet comfortable and very safe navigation.
Based on a VPLP design, this great catamaran sums up the know-how of the renowned French boatyard Outremer Yachting.
Her first owners, both professional sailors ex-Whitbread and VOR, made her comfortable but without excessive added weight in order not to alter her Outremer DNA. On the other hand, they picked among the best available navigation and communications equipment, sails, rigging and deck hardware in order to ensure robustness as well as fast and safe passages.
Moana comes in the 4 cabins version, ideal for a cruising family and/or plenty of friends. On port are a 180cm wide double bed aft, a heads/bathroom, an office, a front cabin with a single bed and a bathroom/shower forward. On starboard are a 180cm wide double bed aft, separate bathroom/shower and heads, and a 160cm double bed forward.
Embarking on a world voyage in 2012, Moana crossed the Atlantic and the Pacific; her second owners took her from New Caledonia to Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu and French Polynesia. Upon concluding their cruising program in Papeete, her owners decided to ship her back to Europe via cargo ship.
Therefore, Moana will arrive at La Grande Motte in May 2019, and will wait there for the new owners who will take her on new adventures. She is suitable for all types of sailing areas and will provide you with autonomy, comfort and safety. Moana was hauled out for detailed inspection and repairs as required in 2016 (Boatworks, AUS), 2017 (Norsand, NZ) and 2018 (Norsand, NZ). Additionally, the mast was un-stepped and the rigging underwent a full Level C inspection/testing/repairs by Doyle Rigging in Auckland in January 2018.
Moana is a proven, capable blue water cruiser with lots of options, meticulously maintained. Every system is extensively documented from a user’s perspective. Benefit from the many small and large improvements made over the years!
